Young Music Industry Professionals – Level 3 Gold Arts Award

Are you a young creative person who is considering a career within the arts? Our Young Music Industry Professionals – Level 3 course has been specifically designed for people between the ages of 16 and 25 who aspire to work within the creative industries.

The creative industries contributes in excess of £100bn per annum to the UK economy. Our Young Music Industry Professionals – Level 3 course has been specifically designed for people between the ages of 16 and 25 who aspire to work within this dynamic sector. Learners will develop an understanding of the many unseen skills that are required in order to run a successful micro business within the arts.

Successful graduates of this course will receive a Gold Arts Award is a Level 3 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is designed for ages 16 and above, but is open to young people aged 11 to 25. The award has 16 points on the UCAS tariff.

Learners of this course will collect evidence in an individual arts portfolio of their experiences of:

Personal arts development

  • extending their own arts practice, experiencing another art form and creating new work
  • identifying and being involved in the world of the arts through placements, volunteering, training and research
  • reviewing arts events/experiences and finding out about artists and their career paths
  • making the case for an arts issue and communicating the case

Leadership of an arts project

  • planning a project, identifying the project’s aims and outcomes
  • organising the people and resources
  • delivering the project and managing the effectiveness of the project
  • managing a public showing/sharing of the work
  • reviewing their leadership development and finding effective ways to collect and evaluate feedback from participants, audience members and other stakeholders

This course is commensurate to further education unit within a broader area of study. It requires you to work independently, undertake research and assess your growth as an artist through portfolio based evidence. It is primarily delivered within our learner management system (LMS).

A wealth of information is presented in written form, audio and video and is presented in a careful step-by-step approach.

MLC periodically hosts live webinars and communications are sent to the student cohort covering resource updates and other helpful, relevant information.

A manageable deadline for submissions will be mutually agreed by you and your mentor.

Each unit will be reviewed by MLC individually and in chronological order. The review will take form in comments being made within the shared Google Doc submission and you will be invited to meet your mentor – either face-to-face or online – to discuss the review in an open forum. You may then need to make alterations and re-submit.

Peer reviews and work experience can be facilitated by you or in conjunction with MLC. Help and advice will be given as you approach those units. Your initial purchase entitles you to no more than 20 hours of feedback and guidance time. Additional time can be purchased should you desire it.

Once each unit has been completed and mutually agreed, your work will be compiled as a portfolio and submitted to the awarding body in accordance with their rules and regulations. You will then be invited by them to take part in a viva voce. Your results and examiner’s report will then be posted to MLC and shared with you. This process will take place at MLC Nottingham and is subject to additional fees. All of which are publicly available at the awarding body’s website.

It is expected that this course should be completed within 45 weeks of signing up. It is advised and strongly recommended that you meet with MLC – in person or online – before signing up to this course.

Though reasonable efforts are taken to ensure that your journey when undertaking this course is a pleasant one, success cannot be guaranteed. Support is available though it cannot necessarily be preempted. Continued communication between you and MLC/your mentor is a prerequisite in order that you stand the best chance possible ensuring a successful outcome. If you have passed this course you will receive a Gold Arts Award – a Level 3 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The award has 16 points on the UCAS tariff. It is accredited by Trinity College London and has been developed in conjunction with Arts Council England.

Progression

Successful learners can go onto study:

  • Grade 8 in music performance and/or music production
  • Level 4 undergraduate diplomas in music performance, music teaching and creative entrepreneurship
