On Monday, 1st June 2020, MLC Derby welcomed the third cohort of students to take part in the Arts Award Discover course, delivered by the Music Learning Collective.
Arts Award Discover is an introductory award, designed for ages 5 and above, but is open to children and young people aged up to 25.
To pass Arts Award Discover, learners are required to create an individual portfolio which demonstrates how they meet the following requirements:
- the sharing of their arts discovery
their research into artists and their work
their participation in arts activities
Like previous courses delivered by MLC Nottingham, and MLC Loughborough, MLC Derby provided the course free of charge in an aim to to help children connect with others and to continue their studies during the COVID-19 shutdown.
Students from Derbyshire and neighbouring counties took part in a range of activities planned by MLC Derby owner, Nishan, challenging the young learners to progress in their chosen art form and discover new skills – all from the comfort of their own home.
As expected, the submissions were outstanding MLC Arts Award Advisors were blown away with the level of work and all students achieved their Arts Award Discover qualification by the end of the week. Check out an example below.
MLC Derby hopes to plan a second FREE Arts Award Discover for later this year, followed by the follow up ‘Explore’ qualification.
