The MLC Music Production course draws on RSL’s syllabus, which is the world’s first graded system for aspiring music producers, recording & mix engineers and recording artists.

Overview

Continuing RSL’s 30-year history of innovation in music education, together with the MLC’s method of tuition and support, this course offers a unique opportunity for the next generation of music production students to gain a comprehensive understanding of both classic and contemporary production techniques, across a range of genres, whilst earning a globally recognised qualification.

Course Features

On completion of each level/grade, every candidate will own a wealth of technical, practical and theoretical knowledge that they can apply to real-world scenarios – whether it’s in audio production, electronic music production, mixing, editing, mastering or sound for media.

How it Works

The course is divided into a number of sections across each Level/Grade:

Music Production Theory: provides you with the necessary material needed to achieve an understanding of key music production terminology, as well as sound and audio fundamentals, in relation to modern music production.
Listening Skills: using audio examples provided, you will learn how to demonstrate effective listening skills relevant to modern music production. In this section, we look at sonic fidelity, music theory & harmony and stylistic awareness.
Coursework Task: in order to enhance your technical skills, you will be asked to complete a coursework task which will demonstrate your ability to use the digital audio workstation (DAW) of your choice.

You will be given the opportunity to demonstrate both your skills and creativity in a simulated professional situation. You will be assessed on your ability to resolve industry standard scenarios using appropriate techniques and your DAW of choice.

Whatever your desire, be it music producer, recording engineer, mix or mastering engineer, editor, electronic music composer or merely to improve your knowledge of traditional and contemporary production techniques, this syllabus will ensure you gain the most comprehensive range of skills and knowledge currently available.
